"Sustainably growing our community and pursuing achievement through our love of football"
Whether a player, coach, volunteer, supporter, parent or sponsor, we look beyond ourselves, embracing the fact we are first and foremost part of “The Jets” community. The success of our club as a whole depends on the acknowledgement we are “One Club” with a common purpose.
We work to nurture long term success by following ‘best practice’ on and off the field. We challenge ourselves to become the benchmark of community football and sporting clubs.
We seek success through a culture of pride in club, team and self. We value determination, fairness and respect as key to success. We appreciate and acknowledge the hard work and loyalty of our club community and enjoy achievement of all kinds within our club as if it were our own.
The club was initially formed by teachers and students from Unley High School in 1970. Initially known as Unley High Old Scholars, the name was changed to Unley Football Club in 1990, and again to Unley Mercedes Jets in 2012.
The Jets name was adopted in 1990.
Clubrooms were constructed at Kingswood Oval in 1975, with major renovations including a balcony extension completed in 2021.
A grade premierships were achieved in 1993, 1996 and 2012. Several B and C grade flags have also been won; the most notable year being 2012 when all 3 senior teams won premierships.
The club also fielded a D grade and a women’s team in recent years, and in 2023 has 3 senior men’s teams, with the A’s coached by former AFL champion Scott Thompson.
Approximately 1500 players have pulled on a guernsey in the seniors in the 50 plus years of the club’s existence. The Jets are proud to have a very strong past players and life members support group, many of whom who continue as volunteers.
The senior games record holder is David Stanes with 338 games. Several players have gone on to have outstanding AFL and SANFL careers.
Records of club office bearers, premiership teams, and 150 game plus players can be viewed at the clubrooms.
In 2002 the first junior teams were fielded. This influx of juniors allowed the club to field 5 sides in 2003 adding U11's, 13's, and 15's.
The Juniors first Premiership went to the 2007 U13 side and by 2009 there were 8 teams in the comp.
By 2011, The Unley Jets Juniors were the largest club by membership in the Sturt zone, fielding teams in every one of the Metro South age divisions from Auskick and U8's to U16.
In 2013 the Club fielded a joint U18 side in the SAAFL competition for the first time. Satisfyingly, over 50% of the 2012 Premiership sides were ex-juniors.
In 2017 the Unley Mercedes Jets saw their first ever female Premiership honour going to the U14 team.
